Program Information

The Test Preparation Program is a part-time program designed for non-native speakers who are interested in taking the TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic or General English proficiency exams in order to achieve their academic or professional goals.

The goals of the Test Preparation Program are to provide ESL learners with a condensed curriculum that will prepare students for and help them take the IELTS Academic or the TOEFL iBT exam by maximizing their score in the key learning sections: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Throughout the course, students will be exposed to various learning tutorials and academic materials for specific sections enabling them to improve their knowledge and understanding of test-taking strategies as well as their potential.

Depending on the individual student, the main expected outcome for this course is to be prepared to take the new generation of TOEFL iBT exam or the IELTS Academic exam. Some students may be required to add more independent study before they are recommended to take the test. Upon completion of this program, students will have developed the required skills for the language proficiency tests and boosted their confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing sections. They will have learned major grammar categories to develop better organization and structure in speaking and writing sections. Students will also have acquired and practiced strategies for writing tasks perfecting what they already know in organizing and writing the essays in the required formats.

To qualify for this course, applicants will need to take a model test of either the TOEFL iBT or the IELTS Academic exams (depending on which exam they intend to take) and attain a minimum overall scaled score of 70 for the TOEFL iBT and an overall band score minimum of 6.0 on the IELTS (or 5.5 in each section). Students who receive lower than these benchmarks must first enroll in the English Program in order to improve their general English skills before advancing to the Test Preparation Program.

This program is offered at a five or eight-week interval. The five-week program provides 75 hours of training and the eight-week program provides 120 hours of training. Both programs are 15 hours per week, with classes held three hours every day Monday through Friday. Please call or e-mail to check the availability of the program and class times; the class times offered will depend on the enrollment for each session.
